Seniors' programmes
Many of our facilities offer a range of fitness and recreational programs for seniors as part of the City’s Seniors Programme. Our activities differ depending on the facility, but all encourage ‘active ageing’ where seniors maintain their health and fitness levels and keep active in the community.
Arts and crafts
Awaken your inner creative by joining our Arts and Crafts programme for seniors. The facilities that run the programme offer a range of formal and informal classes. Some seniors create crafts to sell to raise funds for their facility.

If you are an art and crafts teacher or are familiar with different techniques, you may apply to volunteer at one of our facilities from the list above. Volunteers must be of high school age or older.
Ballroom dancing
Seniors ballroom dancing provides a fun environment for seniors to learn a number of traditional ballroom dances.

Draughts
Draughts, more commonly known as checkers, is a competitive two-player board game. The game requires a great deal of mental, rather than physical, activity.
This activity is held at
Tambo Community Hall.
Seniors groups
BAEC Bavuyise Seniors programme
BAEC Bavuyise Seniors is one of the City’s many senior sport and recreation programmes.
The programme takes place during the week at the
Khayelitsha Multipurpose Centre CBD.
Seniors clubs
Some of our facilities offer seniors’ clubs for community members aged 50 and up. The club's activities vary with each facility, but include everything from support groups and worship to needlework, fitness classes and games. Senior citizens can have fun getting in shape and staying active with our low impact aerobics class.

It is never too late to learn how to swim! Seniors are invited to join our Learn To Swim programme this summer.
Seniors fitness
These fitness activities vary from facility to facility, but all classes and physical programmes are designed with seniors in mind. Activities typically include aerobics and walking, but some facilities also have gym equipment.
